The course is focused on developing and improving competences related to how to use storytelling in the specific context of global education. The course is aimed at people working in the field of global education (trainers, activists, advocates,
communications).
The methodology will consist of non formal learning based approaches, practical workshops, sharing stories, global education activities and experiential learning (with an outdoors component). Reflective practice will also be a crucial feature of
the project. The course is designed for participants with at least a basic understanding of global education. Also, the participants must be motivated and willing to learn, share, explore and discover their skills in order to use their experience later in their jobs and/or communities.
The training opportunity is a week long course called Spinning a Yarn(SAY). The course will look at the art of storytelling in the context of global education. The importance of storytelling for improved public engagement is becoming widely recognised as an area of priority in the global education sector.

Some Background:
Zeminar is a new social enterprise that will stage Ireland’s largest & most inclusive youth summit for ‘Generation Z’ (hence the name) and will attract up to 30,000 15-20 year olds over 3 days to the RDS in October. What makes Zeminar different from Higher Options or other such exhibitions is that while the career aspect is present, it will form part of a more holistic approach to the issues and interests of young people today, with other hubs covering Well-Being; Youth Organisations; Sports & Hobbies; Arts, Music & Culture; Technology and Inspirational Speakers on the main stage (see pg 4 of the event brochure). From an attendee experience perspective the aim is to provide a fully integrated and ultra-positive environment in which educational & professional bodies can showcase their offering in the best possible way.
Speakers taking to the main stage over the three days of the event include: Bressie, Fr. Peter McVerry; The Parents of Donal Walsh; Mark Little of Storyful; Jamie Heaslip; David Gillick; Maria Walsh/Former Rose of Tralee; Dr. Rhona Mahony/Master of Holles St.; Dermot Whelan/Today FM; Senator Lynn Ruane; Ian Power/Spunout; Doug Leddin; James Kavanagh (Snapchat); Cassie Stokes (Xpose) – to name but a few. Our media partners are Media Central (Spin + other youth stations around Ireland) and INM (The Indo group) and the ISSU (Irish Second Level Students Union) are supporting school and student engagement.
The ethos of the event is inter-active and experiential – there will be nobody just standing around handing out leaflets or free pens! As such we are inviting all of our exhibitors (Youth; Corporate; Sporting etc…) to display the most imaginative concept they have to offer. Some examples will be a virtual reality exhibit (leading tech firm); workshops to counter exam stress and anxiety (leading youth mental health organisation); a day in the life series (tax institute); Human fussball (large sporting organisation); 3D printing exhibit (leading university) etc…
I have attached below our new ad that will run in the Irish Independent and an Event Brochure. Here’s some coverage of the launch:
